Week 20: And that's a Wrap!

Posted on October 16th, 2020 by Michael Moss

The time has come to revel in the last week of the 2020 CSA. Why revel? Let me count the ways.

2020 has been a challenging year in ways I would have not expected when I was planning for this season. Despite the wild changes out in our wider world, our farm has been essential in the lives of our staff, our CSA members and our customers. The weekly, and mostly predictable, rhythm of the farm helped anchor me as I dodged, weaved and pivoted to ensure that the food we all depend upon was abundant all season long. Seeing our members come to the farm and pick up sites for the last 20 weeks has been such a beautiful connection to our community and has filled us with hope. Thank you. Watching nature flow from each sunrise to each sunset seemingly with such ease and grace builds my faith that, just like nature, we are all in a greater flow that will guide us through these hard times.

Now we are here: The last CSA pick up of the season, and it is going to be tasty. Cabbages, cauliflower, yummy roots, bitter greens, colorful carrots, salad, bunching greens, spinach and the last of the winter squash will fill your boxes this week. While not every crop we planted came into fruition this year, the bounty of the farm is expressing itself even here in mid October.

If you would like to fill your pantry or root cellar with crops to take you into early fall, this week is the week to do it! I am loading Harvie with extras of each item so please make sure your box is exactly just what you want. If you need more of anything, check out our add ons for extra goodies. We have 24 jays of the 2020 Kilt Farm Honey left, so grab one for your share and taste the flowers of summer well into the fall.

Fruit Share - This week we will have Golden Delicious Apples, Harrow Sweet Pears and Apple Cider. If you want to preserve your cider until later in the fall you can refreeze it. This week we will again have the fruit shares in separate boxes from your veggies.

Over the next week, Cayla will be sending out a few emails with a look back at the 2020 season, our plan for locking in your 2021 shares, and a request for feedback. Every year we strive to make our CSA one of the best in the State, if not the nation. You are key to our success and as such, we want to keep you informed and take your feedback in to make us always better.

Thank you for making this season so amazing. Until I can feed you again, please take care of yourself and love those around you with all your heart. We will do the same and see you next season.

In health and great food

Michael
