Week 19: Second to last Week of the Season

Posted on October 9th, 2020 by Michael Moss

Wow, the weeks fly by so quickly. We are officially on the home stretch as we prepare for the 19th week of our 20-week CSA season.

Fall is never boring. Our days are filled with field prep, harvesting and clean up all over the farm. We've begin planting and nurturing our cover crops to look after our soil during the windy winter. It is the late season that separates the wheat from the chaff so to speak around the farm. We are all tired but every day the staff dig deep and continue to do the work of growing high-quality food for the most amazing folks (that's you).

This week we are harvesting the first of our spinach and chicories. Keep an eye out for Virtus and Escarole in your shares which are both bitter greens for soups and cooking. Plus we have our first cauliflowers, Napa cabbage and lots of greens. You possibly don't need more radishes after last weeks onslaught, for which I apologize, but they are in the mix again this week.

The big news is that I have been saving the pumpkins for the cooler weather and I think next week might feel like fall. This week pie pumpkins are in your share. We are also offering carving pumpkins as a share add-on. The carving pumpkins come in two sizes (Regular and Mammoth) and will be delivered to your pick up site (or home if you get home delivery). The numbers are limited so I'm releasing some this week and the rest next week.

Fruit Share - This week we have more amazing apples, pears and apple cider. Time to make a spiced cider and snuggle up with your loved ones.

Add ons - We still have Honey, Calendula balm, bulk carrots, flowers and mushrooms to add to your shares this week.

Enjoy your weekend and continue to eat and be well,

Michael
