Melons and Garlic, oh my!

Posted on August 9th, 2019 by Michael Moss

It is August on the farm and we are in full flow mode. Sometimes we are running as fast as we can to get the food out of the field, cleaned and ready to go. Other times we are planning and triaging the long to-do list. The one thing's for sure; we are always moving.

This week we are excited to offer the first of our water melons, bell peppers and hardneck Roja Garlic. The melons are super sweet, the bell peppers are crisp and delicious and the garlic is spicy. You sure can taste the nutrition in these delicious crops.

Preserving Shares - This week we have pickling cucumbers and paste tomatoes available for purchase. All members who have purchased preserving shares have credit in their account to use for these items. All members are welcome to purchase these preserving shares as an extra. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Fruit Shares - This week the fruit share will be a 10# flat of PF7 peaches and a bag of cherries. Each fruit share member will have a label on their flat of peaches. The cherries will be in your boxes. Enjoy. We are still a week away from additional fruit for sale. The grower let me know that there is a little gap as some of the next varieties have been slow to rein.

Boulder Valley School District Tour - Today we were blessed have the entire staff of the BVSD Kitchen Team come out to our farm in Gunbarrel. We shared a bit about our farm and the philosophy behind what we do. It is a thrill that our local school district buys local, organic and nutrient dense food for their students. Hopefully the staff in the kitchen is a little more inspired by what they saw and learned. A huge shout out to BVSD for supporting Kilt Farm and local food.

Have a great weekend.
