Farm Happenings for April 27, 2021

Posted on April 23rd, 2021 by Jenny Jackson

We survived the late frost with a lot of row cover on the tender plants. Squash, cucumbers, basil, eggplant and zinnias may not have made it through so well without the extra protection. Tomatoes are planted under a high tunnel so thankfully we didn't have to cover those. Pulling these giant sheets and securing them in the wind is no one's favorite job on the farm! Its pretty unusual for us to get a frost this late in the spring (our frost free date is mid April), I can only remember it happening a couple of times since we've been farming. Plenty of years we've had frost in early April, so we've learned not to plant out then even though its so tempting with the warming temps in late March.

Hope all your gardens survived!
