CSA Week #10-A

Posted on July 21st, 2021 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Here we are at CSA Week #10 - and it's time to customize your boxes for next week. Don't forget to add on an extra or two from one of our awesome partners - bread or bagels from the Gracious Table, eggs from the Miller Farm, honey from McLaury Apiaries. We are starting to add more summer vegetables (jalapenos, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, etc.), but they're still not in quite enough quantity that they will always be assured to be available to swap into your boxes. If they don't show as an option in Harvie, then it's because our estimated harvest of that item is already allotted to other boxes. Sometimes, if we can tell over the weekend that our estimate was way low of a particular item, then we'll add more during the customization period, so it can happen that you might find more options if you check back later. We appreciate your patience as we try to increase our harvest estimates of these summer favorites in a conservative way so that we never actually over estimate -- a total Harvie no no! We're also trying to balance our harvests of certain crops that we grow extra of for our wholesale accounts - for example cherry tomatoes and beef steak tomatoes. Once they start coming on, there's a very good demand for those products, so we try to parse them out and increase them to both the CSA and wholesale incrementally. Whatever we harvest in abundance of our estimate ends up going to market.

The pic above is the view of the farm from Big Bend Road above. We enjoyed farm work today to the tunes of bagpipes as the Kootenai Highland Games was getting under way across the highway at the River Bend Restaurant. Come on out to check them out on Saturday! The week ahead will be another full one as we try to keep up with planting and harvesting as well as squeezing in a garlic harvest somewhere!

Stay cool this weekend! Rudy & Bonnie
