CSA Week #5-B

Posted on June 11th, 2021 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Looking forward to seeing you all at your pick up this week! Tomorrow looks like a glorious day for a farmers market and we are super thankful because the last several weeks have been a little iffy on the weather - either way too hot, too cold, or too windy and rainy! And a good thing too, because we have had a massive week of harvesting and we sure hope that folks are hungry for their vegetables!

We have a lot of broccoli and cabbage this week and for the next couple of weeks as our 'brassica block' finally started to produce. That block also contains kale and some cauliflower, and the whole thing got off to a really rough start this season. Our transplants were just really lackluster due to (we think!) some poor seedling mix, and then once we put them in the ground they were further subjected to abuse with many hard freezes and thaws. Needless to say, the whole block was looking pretty rough and tumble for a while, but it has rallied and produced some very hearty plants and finally some great crops to harvest. We're glad that we stuck it out and waited for the brassica block to recover from that early season mistreatment. We're just starting to pick some summer vegetables (zucchini and cherry tomatoes) still not yet in the quantity that we need to be part of the CSA, but we're getting close!

See you at pick up, Bonnie & Rudy =)

PS. We did some extra Farm Stand boxes this week, so welcome to those folks picking up for the first time. Please let us know what you thought of the Harvie ordering/customizing process and if you had any problems or questions. We hope to keep the Farm Stand going through most of the summer and do quite a few additional boxes when all of our summer crops really begin to fruit.
