CSA Week #4-B

Posted on June 4th, 2021 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

See you at your pick up this week! It might be a wet one, but we will be there and so will your boxes! We expect another week of crazy plant growth as we've had quite a bit of rain and we're forecasted to see temps in the 90s again next week. So we'll be busy trying to keep up with cultivating and weeding. BUT FIRST...there's also a frost warning for Thursday night, so before we can get really hot...it might just get really cold! So be sure to check what the weather's supposed to be at your place and protect any sensitive plants that you have out. We spent the afternoon putting out wire hoops and weights so that we can roll out and cover our squash, tomatillos, and beans with frost cloth if the forecast stays cold. You can use a bucket or cardboard box to cover smaller plants, or construct some sort of tent with a blanket or sheet over a bit larger ones, moving pots closer to the house will help as well. Good luck! We're hoping that we don't actually frost, but you never know!

Instead of more farm news, this week We'd like to go over the Harvie payment plan because we've had several questions on how it works lately. If you're on the payment plan, then you're card will be charged when we finalize your next box pick up...so when this email went out!

To summarize, we'll run through the charges to CSA member Chaka Khan (name has been changed to protect identity). So Chaka signed up back in February for a weekly box and paid with the default payment plan. The total for a weekly box over our 18-week season is $495. Chaka was charged 25% of the total when she signed up ($123.75). The next charge was at her first pick up on week #1...at that time, Chaka was charged another 25%, PLUS the portion of the remaining 50% ($247.50) for that week. The remaining 50% is split across all of the weeks in the season ($247.50/18 weeks = $13.75/week). So that first week of pick ups actually has the 25% charge as well as the $13.75, so Chaka saw on her bank statement that her card was charged $137.50 that week. Now it's smooth sailing, and her card will be charged $13.75 per week for the rest of the season and everything will be hunky-dory. UNLESS...if Chaka decides to purchase some delicious eggs from the Miller Farm, a bouquet from Dragon's Breath Farm, extra tomatoes, or maybe she just decides to swap several less expensive items for more expensive ones, then she will see additional charges. Any additional charges will be shown in her Harvie profile as she make changes or opts for extras, so she will know about them in advance. That sums it up! If you guys have any questions...I Feel For You! Just kidding (listening to Chaka Khan in the background!), don't hesitate to ask about the payment plan or any Harvie charges that you don't understand.

Look forward to seeing you at pick up! Bonnie & Rudy
