Farm Happenings for week of August 20, 2023

Posted on August 20th, 2023 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Happy summer day to you all from the "Produce Squad" at DragSmith Farms.  Looks like we have a hot dry week ahead.

Looking at the beautiful swallowtail butterfly in this photo brings up the subject of native plants.  Three years ago, we started a native plant project.  Saw that many people were looking for potted native plants to replace some of their lawn or just to add a pollinator corner.  In case you are looking for such plants, we have several varieties that we started from seed.  Fall is an excellent time to add them in.  Gives their roots a chance to establish before winter. Up they will come in Spring.

This week on the farm is all about picking beans.  Green beans, dragon tongue beans, and purple beans.  The green beans are in the prefect size range for canning and pickling.  Order extra if you are ready to put some up.  We have plenty.

As always have a great week and you are welcome to come visit.  Stay hydrated!
