Farm Share for October 5-6, 2022

Posted on October 2nd, 2022 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Good day to you all from DragSmith Farms.  A great day to be out in the field picking up squash.  So far we have one whole palet bin of butternuts ready to come out of the field.  Check out all our varieties of squash on the list of choices for the week.  There are 4 weeks left in  the regular 18 week summer season farm share program.  Time to store up for winter eating.  The squash will only get better as they ripen on the kitchen counter ( or use them as decorations) then kept in a cool place like the basement or garage.  Don't store where they will freeze.  Other things to take advantage of now are beets, cabbage, potatoes, carrots and onions.  Don't forget to freeze some broccolini, cauliflower and sweet corn.

I enclosed our favorite freezer sweet corn recipe.  Intend to do another 4 dozen ears today.  This recipe came from a friend of my mother's, Cindy.  We have used this one for many years. You will need to cut the raw corn off the cob with a sharp knife.  We sit with a bowl between our legs and slice down the cob so the corn falls into the bowl.  You can also blanch the whole cob and throw cob and all in the freezer.  Takes up more room, but, is worth it in the dead of winter.

Check out our Winter Farm Share program.  Helps to keep you well supplied for the winter holidays.

As always have a great week and you are welcome anytime.
