Good day to everyone.  Hope all is well as can be expected.  Have you adjusted to the school schedule yet?  Even if you don't have children in school the change is noticed in such things as traffic patterns, store conjestion and restaurant business.  The number of decreased hours of daylight is more noticeable as well.  The number of mosquitoes painfully became aware since the rain and warm temperatures!

The photo today reflects the interesting colors and shapes of the Easter Egg Radishes we are offering.  Table radishes come in many colors and sizes even though we usually only see the common red radish offered in most stores.  The relatively inexpensive cost is somewhat off balanced to the effort it takes to get that bunch to the table.  Tilling and seeding the radish is only the beginning.  There is more involved.  Timing of the seeding is very important.  We seed either very early in the spring or late summer.  This avoids the impact of hot weather which creates a breeding ground for soil worms, the super spicy flavor of hot summer and going to seed prematurely. While harvesting we selectively pull the radish from the soil since radishes don't grow uniformly.  We place them in a bin with tops all running in the same direction because next they are rinsed off with the hose and left to drip dry in the shade.  If they go to a store bunching is the next chore. Bunching sounds so easy, but, there is the job off pulling out the funky radishes and pulling off any unsightly leaves and rubberbanding them so they lie evenly.   Counting bunches comes next.  The end result is a simple looking bunch of deliious radishes!

As always have a great week and you are always welcome to the farm.
