Farm Share for August 10-11, 2022

Posted on August 6th, 2022 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Greetings.  The summer days are progressing.  August is the get ready for school month and sweet corn month.  Our sweet corn is about waist high.  It looks healthy but continues to wait for a decent rain.  Today watching the radar was interesting.  As soon as the rain clouds hit Barron County they disappeared and went north.  We did find a local farmer with sweet corn, so, we are offering sweet corn this week.  It tastes good, but, it is not certified organic.

Please remember to return your boxes to the drop site.  We budget for 3 boxes per customer.  Plus this world needs more recycling.

Looks like green beans will be ready next week.  Maurice hates green beans.  Growing up in Oregon he had to pick beans to earn money for school clothes.  As the story goes he biked several miles uphill (the hills there are way more impressive than anything around here) and pick all day for 10 cents a pound.

Broccolini and kohlrabi are also on the menu this week.  The broccolini is tender, mild and sweet.  Broccoli leaf will be offered as a green.  Use it like kale or salad greens.

Have a great week and remember you are always welcome to come and weed or pick the never ending summer squash crop.
