Farm Share for August 3-4, 2022

Posted on July 31st, 2022 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Happy summer day.  It looks like we are in for a hot and humid week.  Today we hope to transplant the last crops of broccoli, broccolini and cauliflower.  The first crops of broccoli, broccolini and green beans are coming along.  They are growing very, very slowly.  The lack of water has them taking longer than normal.  The choices this week will be about the same as last week because we need water leaking from the sky.  I bet Kentucky would love to share some water with us!  What a horrible situation.  We may be a bit frustrated about our weather but overall we should feel blessed.

The above photo is all about giant tree lilies.  Tis the season for blooming lilies.  Three years ago our greenhouses were destroyed by a tornado.  Spring of 2020 we replanted the flower bed in front of Greenhouse 1.  We put in several giant tree lilies many which are white huge blooming machines.  The sweet smell is rewarding as well.

Noticed that the summer squash is also not growing as quickly as other years.  Just in case they quit producing purchasing extra zucchini to shred for the freezer and next winters zucchini bread might be a good idea. If you would like to find out an application for Squash blossoms go to the restaurant Tongue in Cheek.  The purchased 5 pounds of Squash blossoms last week!  It took us 2 hours to gather them.

As always have a great week and stay hydrated.  Remember you are always welcome at the farm.  If you are into camping check us out on the Harvest host site.
