Farm Share Week 11

Posted on August 29th, 2021 by Gail and Maurice Smith

If you could hear the sound this busy bee was making when it was collecting pollen, you would know the sound of happiness.  We have two large bee yards on the farm.  The keeper is Richard from Milk and Honey.  He often reports "our" bees are some of the most productive.  They know where the best organic flowers are, we venture to guess.  Course living on the Yellow River helps.  Lots of woods, swamps and just plain wild country.  The bee yards are located north of our residence in an old sand pit where they are comfortably sheltered.  Had to install a solar powered electric fence to keep the bear out.  Consider adding local honey to your diet if you have allergy issues.  A bit of honey each day helps the body to build a tolerance for many individuals.

We received a bit more rain the last few days.  Enough to make water puddles and to sprout the fall crop of lettuces and spinach.  Now if we can keep the deer out of the greens we will have fresh greens in about one month.

As always, have a great week, stay safe and remember you are always welcome on the farm.
