Farm Share Week 5

Posted on July 18th, 2021 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Hello everyone.  Its another beautiful hot sunny.  Absolutely great for camping, going to the local fair, baseball and all those other fun summer activities.

We are trying our best to stay positive, but, it is difficult.  Again, absolutely no rain.  To be honest this has been the worst growing season we have seen in the 30 years.  Unfortunately, the global weather extremes are a real problem.  We all need to sit back and figure out what real things we can do to combat the issue.  Food shortages are coming.  The heat out west and the floods in the south are going to have some long term affects.

We have added some more veggies to the list this week.  A few of our neighbors have some excess.  They have  smaller areas and grow 3-4 things. Can sprinkle small plots. Of course everything ripens at the same time. This way we can help each other out and you benefit as well.  Eating with the seasons and locally can have its advantages and disadvantages that is for sure.

The photo is broccolini.  One of the most delicious vegetables we have added in the recent years.  If it starts to flower eat them too.  Steam broccolini and broccoli gently.  They are tender when fresh.  Use the stems too.  Grandson Steven thinks that's the best part.  Likes the crunch.
