Farm Happenings for November 11, 2021

Posted on November 7th, 2021 by Michael Hoke

It's parsnip season on Common Ground Farm! While the hard frosts last week meant the end of some of our summer favourites, the cold weather is great for autumn veggies like parsnips and napa (featured this week). Parsnips are fantastic oven roasted or make a great soup. Napa cabbage is super versatile -- we love its crunch in raw slaws and salads, and also enjoy it sautéed, stir-fried, or steamed.

From HOPE EcoFarms (Aylmer) we have lots of butternut squash and sweet potatoes. From Pfennings Organics look for Ontario mushrooms as well as, imported cauliflower, celery, ginger, avocados, bananas, apples, lemons, and kiwi. New this week we have black walnuts available from Hearts' Ease Homestead close to Thondale, Ontario. Returning are Honeynut, Black Futsu, and Yokohama specialty squash from Orchard Hill Farm near Sparta, Ontario.

Please note that if you order a frozen meat product from us there is a 3 pack minimum in order to ensure the cooler bag and products stay frozen. Please email us to mix and match to customize your own 3-pack.

On the farm this week we are working hard to get our garlic planted for 2022 and finally finish harvesting our potatoes.  The weather has helped as finally we aren't getting rained on!

Thanks very much for your support!
