Farm Happenings for November 4, 2021

Posted on October 31st, 2021 by Michael Hoke

To everything there is a season, and pepper season is officially (and sadly) over this week at Common Ground Farm. The photo shows the final greenhouse beds of peppers just before turning them over to grow winter lettuce.

This week we're featuring some of the vegetables we love to munch on raw in the colder months: purple daikon radish, watermelon radishes, and kohlrabi. For those unfamiliar, the winter radishes are quite mild with most of the radish bite contained in the outer skin. Kohlrabi is actually related to cabbages and broccoli, and has a delicious flavour reminiscent of fresh peas once peeled and cut into sticks. From HOPE EcoFarms (Aylmer) we have lots of butternut squash and sweet potatoes. From Pfennings Organics look for Ontario mushrooms, red onions, as well as, imported celery, ginger, avocados, bananas, apples, and, new this week: lemons, kiwis, and pomegranates.

Please note that if you order a frozen meat product from us there is a 3 pack minimum in order to ensure the cooler bag and products stay frozen. Please email us to mix and match to customize your own 3-pack.
