Farm Happenings for October 29, 2020

Posted on October 25th, 2020 by Chris DeVries

Major fall harvest continues on the farm.  We are less than half way through our carrot harvest and we still have some beets and winter radish to bring into the cooler.  We have planted about half of our garlic so far and hope that this week we will have our greenhouse 80% planted in winter lettuce.  We're bringing in some extra help for the next 2 weeks or so to make sure we get all the critical jobs done by the time we get a really hard frost.

Mini Survey, please help us with your feedback!

A question I have wondered about for extras we add to our list and would love to have your input on:  Would you prefer access to more local extras (like apples and pears) that are NOT organic, or do you buy strictly organic?  I am doing a "straw poll" and if you have an opinion on what you would like to see us offer in addition to our veggies, please take a minute to fill this out.

Each week I will attempt to detail here what items are on our list but are not grown on our farm.  For this week we have:

  • butternut squash, sweet potatoes, yellow onions: HOPE eco-farm in Aylmer
  • red onions / yellow onions: Pfennings in Baden (near Kitchener)
  • apples: organic apples from BC through Pfennings
  • pears: anjou pears from WA through Pfennings
  • mushrooms: organic from a producer near Leamington (from Pfennings)

New items from the farm this week: Watermelon radish and leek!
