Farm Happenings for October 22, 2020

Posted on October 19th, 2020 by Chris DeVries

Welcome to anyone who has just started with us for our fall CSA of 9 weeks.  This will take us all the way until the week of December 18th.  If you are with us from Grand Bend, we will have 5 more weeks of share deliveries to the Lake Hound. We will be adding leek to our list for this week for the first time and we still have a few new crops to add in the coming weeks (watermelon radish and parsnips for sure).  Our small planting of greenhouse peppers is still chugging along and we have a lot of what is likely the last of the tomatoes for the next 2 weeks.

We took the time last week to do a lot of "bulk" harvest of veggies to put in our expanded winter cooler.  Our Kohlrabi, cabbage and celeriac are pretty much finished now and we have a decent start on our carrot and potato harvest.  We still have a lot to do for the next couple of weeks so we're hoping the weather cooperates with us.  On top of that we are also madly trying to get our greenhouse and unheated hoophouses planted for the winter in greens!  So if you were going to ask if things were slowing down here yet, the answer is "not yet!"
