Farm Happenings for July 2, 2019

Posted on June 28th, 2019 by Jodi Danyo

New this Week:  Broccoli, Beets, Zucchini, and Salad Mix!

This week, summer is officially here with the start of crops like zucchini!

Since this is Week #4 of Farm Share 2019, we will be doing another Member Appreciation giveaway this week!

During the very busy summer months, we struggle to balance the time demands of crops and farm with the demands of home and family.  We know that we are not alone in this struggle!  So, we decided this week to give you all the gift of "thyme" in the hopes that you will have some down time this July 4th holiday to spend relaxing with family and friends.

As many of you already know, we grow lots of potted veggies, herbs, and flowers for home gardeners each spring.  Please select a thyme plant available in flats at your pick-up location, and check out our blog post in the coming week on all the uses for your thyme...

This Week on Our Farm...

OK, so I know I said last week that we needed some drier weather, but I really should have specified temps under 85 degrees!

With the rain and now heat, crops (and weeds!) are exploding with growth.  It won't be long now until we are harvesting cucumbers, tomatoes, and melons.

Most exciting this week - the broccoli is here!  Spring broccoli is a very risky crop since it often gets too hot in June to get a nice crop, or a crop at all.  The first broccoli look amazing...let's hope they continue for the next few weeks despite the heat!

Have a great week ahead everyone!
