Farm Happenings for June 25, 2019

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Jodi Danyo

New this Week:  Radishes & Sunflower Bouquets!

Did you know that starting this week, you can order Primrose Farm eggs by the dozen as an "extra" item in your share?  And yes, the eggs will be delivered in the bag with all your veggies!

Primrose Farm is a local, family farm nestled in the rolling hills of Washington County, PA. Their 700 heritage breed chickens are free-range and produce eggs in a rainbow of colors. Their supplemental feed never contains growth hormones, antibiotics, or GMO grains. Humane treatment, and quality of life are key factors in their operation.  Just like CVO, Primrose Farm is a woman-owned and operated business.  We hope you will support Mandy at Primrose Farm by purchasing eggs this week!

This Week on Our Farm...

We got over 4 inches of rain!  Unbelievable.   Although we did not sustain any crop damage per se, the rainwater runoff did create some deep erosion channels in the fields for the first time since we purchased the property in 2004.  Let's hope for some dry weather for a while...

Despite the rain, we planted the next round of head lettuce, weeded flower beds, and prepped for more flower and veggie planting next week.  And, this was all in addition to harvesting and delivering farm shares!  We are still getting the remainder of the veggies in the ground with eggplants, ground cherries, winter squashes, and gourds all on the planting list for next week!  We are also harvesting Calendula like madwomen!  Just some of the flowers harvested this week...

Have a great week ahead everyone!
