Mid-February Farm Happenings

Posted on February 13th, 2020 by Melinda Hollyfield

Happy Valentine's Day

We hope this is a sweet one filled with food and family- the best way to celebrate any holiday! February tends to be the muddiest month of the year for us with all the stormy weather. On the bright side- the daffodils are blooming! Every year these beautiful late winter flowers remind us that Spring is near. Be sure to check out our veggie recipes this week. There might not be a ton of bright summer flavors but I think these recipes are a good example of all the yummy warming flavors that winter brings. Follow us on Instagram to see the latest updates!

Mark Your Calendars

Based on our survey results we decided to plan a special event for next month:

"A Conversation About the Intersection of Food and Climate Change."

When: March 31st, 6-8 pm

Where: Smith and Lentz Brewing, Nashville, 903 Main St.

RSVP: Facebook Event page

What's in the box?

  • Carrots- @nashgirleats used our carrots to make these Miso Butter Glazed Carrots. We posted the recipe on our new recipe blog or you can find it on her instagram feed!
  • Kale- Did you see our Instagram Story this week? We made these easy Cheesy Kale Chips and couldn't get enough of them.
  • Bunching Green Onions- add these as a garnish to all of these recipes!
  • Napa Cabbage- Last year we made this Traditional Korean Kimchi recipe. We made it without the shrimp paste because we couldn't find it but it was still so delicious! Add in the green onions, carrots and radishes as well. For more Napa Cabbage recipe inspiration, check out this article.
  • Purple Daikon Radish- Playing off of the flavors of the Asian Greens recipe from last week, try this Sesame Radish Salad! Add in our carrots and green onions!
  • Lemon Grass (for tea)- chop up some of these partially dried leaves and add hot water, lemon and honey. More on the health benefits here.
  • Corn Meal- This week we added in our Heirloom Floriani Red Flint Corn Meal. Winter is upon us, and sometimes the veggies just don't grow as fast. We promise you will love our home grown and milled corn meal! These Corn Cakes from Love And Olive Oil are easy and delicious. Follow her Instagram to see how she is using her Caney Fork Farms CSA shares.
