Farm Happenings, Week of June 6

Posted on June 3rd, 2022 by Melinda Hollyfield

Hey CSA Family!

This week we are welcoming our two Summer Research Students from Skidmore College. These students will continue our several multi-year research projects, including tracking our soil carbon inventory, assessing the health and growth of our chestnut trees, engaging with our corn breeding trials (shown above is Emme planting this year's unique corn varieties), and continuing our ecological monitoring program with a focus on analyzing the diversity of forages in our pastures. We are so excited to have them!

This week is also the first week of eggplant harvest! We are just a few weeks away from tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. Summer is right around the corner!

Be sure to check out our "extras" this week, which you can add to your cart during the customization period. This week, we are offering organically raised eggs, and handcrafted and organically grown teas, tinctures, and elixirs from local Nashville herbalist The Healing Oracle Herbal Apothecary. Check them out! These extras make great gifts -- father's day is coming up!

For our Veggie CSA members, here are the organic veggies that you'll find in this week’s CSA box:

Bunching Onions

Sweet Potatoes

Head Lettuce

Italian Greens

Farmer's Choice: Kale or Chard

Kohlrabi

Fennel

Farmer's Choice: Eggplant or Hakurei Turnips

For our Grass-fed Meat CSA members, you'll receive a box of our grass-fed and pasture-raised meats. Check out your order during the customization period to ensure you're receiving the cuts you'll use and enjoy!
