Happy summer!

We hope you’ve been enjoying our grassfed goodness and organically grown veggies.

Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we love feeding you!

Here on the farm, we have been busy with the abundance that summer gives us. We are grateful that our animals are healthy, for the rain and sunshine, and the good work we get to do every day.

** For our meat share members, regarding BEEF: We are using up the last of our inventory. in the past few months we have struggled to keep a variety of beef in your shares due to the slaughterhouses being adversely affected by COVID. However, we are overjoyed to announce that a brand-new certified humane USDA slaughterhouse has opened just 30 minutes from us! We will be stocking new beef into our freezers in mid-June that you will see in your July shares. This is all to say, please review your shares and swap to make sure you get what you want. All we have left in the beef freezer is large “family-sized” (4-6lb) packs of steaks (t-bone, ribeye, porterhouse), ground beef, and sausage.

As we are a small farm, certain cuts will run out from time to time.
And, as a small farm, we are so thankful for each one of our members. Thank you all for bearing with us. We insure that you’ll be happy with the variety and quality of beef in the months to come!

For updates as far as vegetables, we have squash coming soon!! As you can see from the photo above, it is going to be beautiful and delicious. A lot of work goes into planting and growing all your yummy food so be sure to give everything in your box a taste. You might realize you love something you had never even heard of!

We'll see you all next week!

Don’t forget to bring your bag to the farmers market or leave it out, we'll reuse them!

Oregano

Oregano is a woody herb that grows in sprawling patches, particularly in spring and early summer, but also throughout the year.  Pairing especially well with beans, poultry, meats, shellfish and vegetables, it is extremely versatile.  It bestows a savory, earthy flavor that is commonly used cooked, but can also be sprinkled raw as a garnish.  Studied extensively for it’s anti-inflammatory properties, oregano follows the pattern of most plants by developing phytochemicals like flavonoids and phenolic acids as defense mechanisms to help fight against pests and disease.  In our bodies, these phytochemicals help counteract inflammation and cancer, and work as antioxidants.  While oregano can be added at any time, it releases most of its potency when added at the beginning of cooking, to have maximum time to soak and and cook in foods and their juices.   Herbs and spices like oregano are far more than a fancy garnish.  They impart flavors to deeply enrich food so that it is pleasing and stimulating.  They impart phytochemicals that add positive health benefits and promote a calm, stabilized system.  They are truly a welcome and delightful addition.  .producemarketguide

   --Farm notes--
Some of the most common uses of oregano include tomato-centric recipes, like pizza and pasta sauce, as well as olive oil-based dishes. Oregano is commonly combined with olive oil to create flavorful oregano oil, Italian vinaigrettes, and marinades for lamb, chicken, and beef dishes

Fresh oregano is a great antibacterial agent. It has phytonutrients (thymol and carvacrol), which fight infections such as staph. It's loaded with antioxidants that help prevent cell damage, and it's an excellent source of fiber, vitamin K, manganese, iron, vitamin E, tryptophan and calcium. You go, oregano!

Oregano tea is great for excessive cough, digestion, insomnia, circulation, and decreases menstrual cramps
