Daily Harvests in the Farm Jungle

Posted on June 15th, 2021 by Marie Williamson

(Picture: Clare harvesting refreshing mint bunches in our beneficial flower garden.) The beautiful green North Carolina farm jungle is growing by leaps and bounds everyday, and William and I carefully organize the farm's task lists by weather and time sensitivity, so we can try to tackle the right project at the right time and keep all the animals and plants happy and growing.  Our farm crew is picking the zucchini and cucumber plants daily when it is very hot; the plants are living it up with the long days of June.  You can get lost in our zucchini and cucumber patches!   Each day is almost like 2 days to the plants when it is hot and sunny.  The summer solstice is the time of year when all the plants on the farm: flowers, grasses, weeds, and vegetable are trying to grow quickly and flower and set seeds for the next generation of plants. Enjoy those cool, fruity cucumbers, and the tender, sweet zucchinis- this is the moment we've been waiting for!  The basil is thick and lush, and the tomato plants are starting to ripen in the greenhouse (planted and heated in April.) Summer really is swinging!
