Hello and welcome to CSA week 11!

We are so thankful for a few nice soaking rains!  It is making all the fall crops much happier.  The tomatoes are full on now and everyone will be getting a nice amount, in addition to lots of you getting cherry tomatoes.  The melons are ripening and actually look really good.  Some of you will be getting a watermelon with much more coming in the weeks to follow. 2nd week for sweet corn! I hope you found some great uses for it last week. We love to eat it raw right off the cob! The sweet and bell peppers are slowly ripening and some of you will get them this week, but not all.

***FALL SHARES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER!  If you have not signed up yet for a fall share, there is room for about 20 more shares.  The fall shares run for one month during October.  A full share is 4 weekly shares and the half shares are 2 bi-weekly shares.

Basil bunch- So many uses for fresh basil this time of year! Pesto, caprese salad with your tomatoes, wilted onto grilled summer squash, added to a BLT (yum!)

Basil Tomatoes and Mozzerella

summer squash- Roasted Summer Squash and Pesto

Cucumbers- Rice Bowl many ways (great with cucumbers)

Sweet corn- A special seasonal and fleeting treat!  So many ways to eat sweet corn. Raw, grilled, boiled, cut off the cob and cooked up with anything!  in salsa!  If you do not want to use right away you can cut off cob and freeze in a ziploc bag.

Cheesy Corn Poppers recipe

Tomatoes and/or Cherry tomatoes-

Tomatillos- Tomatillos are great roasted with a little olive oil, salt and garlic and then pureed into a salsa with cilantro and lime.  You can also eat them fresh or with eggs, or blended with tomatoes for fresh salsa. peel and wash first.  Keep in a container in the fridge.

Cucumber Gazpacho ( with tomatillos)

arugula- It's back!  Great as a fresh salad with lots of yummy veggies and creamt dressing on top.  Also very good on a BLT.

orange carrot bunch- You can add the carrot tops to a basil pesto, too!  They add a nice flavor and bulk it up a bit. The carrots are more of a storage variety that are great for cooking.   Top them to keep them from wilting and keep in a plastic bag or container in the fridge.

hot peppers, jalapeno and/or habanero- Always nice to have a little fresh spiciness to add to any dish.  Stir frys, salsas, soups, eggs, burritos or tacos, etc... The green or red jalapenos are hotm but not as hot as the orange habaneros.

onions, yellow or red- A couple/few onions for all your cooking needs.

watermelon (yellow or red)- Not everyone gets a watermelon this week, but they are ripening up alot now- more next week! You can keep your melon in the fridge for weeks if you do not want to use it right away. Do refrigerate it, though.  These are picked ripe.  Yellow or red varieties.

Green Beans ( with a few dragons tongue in the mix- more to come next week)- A great summer side dish.  Grilled or seared green beans with corn on the cob- the best!

Eggplant- Grilled Eggplant is so yummy!  Baba Ganoush

Radishes- Either french breakfast or red round.  Wash well after topping.

bell/sweet peppers- So sweet! Eat raw sliced thin on a BLT! Grill or saute with all the other veggies and add to rice with a yummy sauce!
