Hello Members! (Please click on Continue Reading to see newsletter)

***a note about our inventory:  We have listed a lot of inventory again this week, but that also means there is redundancy from the last couple weeks (i.e napa cabbage...) so if you do NOT want another cabbage or another head lettuce, SWAP the item!!  I have plenty of inventory in there to swap, but if you don't you will continue to get these items that are listed if you rated them high on your preferences (you can always change that, too under your account). This is supposed to be a system that works for YOU so take advantage of it!

Well, I guess I am a broken record, but it's hot out there!  The crops and weeds are growing like crazy after all that rain last week!  Weeding, moving irrigation around, planting fall crops like watermelon radishes, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, trellising our field tomatoes and harvesting are filling our days.

We got our last delivery of hogs this weekend.  If you are interested in a large package of pork you can sign up for that through the Harvie website.  We do home delivery, frozen to your door.  Our pigs are pastured on cover crops, fed an organic grain ration that is made up of barley and peas and minerals.  They are NOT fed soy or corn, given antibiotics or medicated feed.  Email with any questions you have.  When you sign up for a pork package, you can email me with any specific requests that you have.  We hope to butcher a cow this fall, but these Highland Cattle grow slow, but deliciously.  It is the beef of choice for the Queen of England! They are also not fed any corn, and are grass fed only.  More info to come on that.  Next week, we bring our chickens in to butcher.  They are Certified Organic, not fed corn or soy and are moved daily to optimize their pasture intake.  They have grown a lot and will be in the 4-6 lbs range.  We will start taking orders for frozen whole and half birds in 2 weeks.  We will sell them for $5/lb and if you want 5-9 it will be $4.75/lb, 10 or more $4.50.  Please email with any questions.

Here is what will be in the box this week:

Carrots- 1.5 lbs of bagged carrots this week. So crunchy and sweet!

Sweet Snap Peas- The peas are plumper and sweeter this week. We might have one more week of picking of them.  Keeps well in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Summer Squash- we are trying to harvest these a bit smaller so we are not so overloaded with them!  Everyone will get 4-6 squash this week depending on size.  Grilled Zucchini and Squash

Broccoli- Stir fry!  Steam and melt cheese over it! Grill it!  Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry

Scallions- These are big scallions!  Great chopped in to a stir fry, fresh on a salad, etc..

Garlic Scapes- Use in lieu of garlic cloves in your recipes.  they are great in eggs and keep fro a couple weeks.

Head Lettuce - Either butterhead, iceberg or oscarde.

Spring Mix- .5 lb of fresh lettuce.  Keeps for 2 weeks.

Parsley Bunch- The parsley this year is looking great!  Excellent Walnut Parsley Pesto

Red Russian Kale bunch- This is a tender kale great for putting into a salad, wilting into a pasta or put in a stir fry.

NO Salad Turnips- apologies, when we started  harvesting them they were so eaten up we had to stop.

Dill Heads (3-4)- You can make a pint or quart of quick pickles with the dill and cucumbers.  Lacto-fermented Pickles

Cucumbers- 1-2 cucumbers.  Just starting to really put on fruit now.  Also excellent sliced thin into rounds on a salad or on a sandwich.
