Farm Happenings for June 4, 2019

Posted on June 2nd, 2019 by Rae Strobel Barr

Well, its amazing how quickly it goes from dry to wet!   We got almost four inches of rain this last week.   Some crops really needed it....and some crops didn't do great...namely the strawberries.   Really the season was ending anyway, but strawberries go bad when they get wet so we saw the end of the harvest this last week.   Fortunately, the romaine lettuce, cauliflower and broccoli were just starting to head up and so they got to soak up all that moisture and finish our nicely.   You should see a good amount of those in the share this week.    Upcoming crops include squash, carrots, beets and bac choy, coming on in the next few weeks.  Tomatoes, potatoes and cucumbers are still a ways out.     And next week we plan to start planting sweet potatoes and fall crops already!   Hope you are enjoying your share and the season!
