Farm Happenings for June 18, 2019

Posted on June 14th, 2019 by Emily Asmus

Summer has arrived on the farm- heat, swimming, and weeding. We've all adapted our schedules to an "early to lunch" schedule. Some on the crew are working in the fields by 5am to beat the heat. We're all trying to finish with field work by 1:00 lunch. This leaves afternoons for tasks for Liz and me like seeding the fall crops, doing wedding flower arrangements in the flower studio, or other planning and marketing. All of us are swimming in YellowHawk creek in the afternoon. In fact, our 7 year old started her 1st day of summer vacation with 4 trips to the creek! Lucky Cora Jane!

In your box this week we are offering fresh garlic- the sized up, but uncured head of garlic. It is a fresh product- use it within the week. The first of the carrots are making their debut and cucs and summer squash are becoming more plentiful. The nice selection of herbs continues, with dill as the staff's pick of the week. The butterhead lettuce would make for nice salad wraps.

Happy eating,

Emily and the whole farm crew
