CSA WEEK 7

Posted on July 12th, 2021 by Lacey Arnold

What a dreadful drought we’re having… said no farmer in the Northeast right now. While the recent downpours have certainly put a damper on our growing season, we’re far from the only farm being affected by this unfortunate turn that the weather has taken. Shifting climate patterns are impacting everyone up and down the supply chain: without a decent balance of sunshine and moisture, nothing goes (or grows) according to plan!

Even in this lull, we still have plenty of plans in the works – we’re always thinking about the next big project, from the corn maze, to Chilifest in the fall, to preserving food for use in the deep winter months when the days of summer sunshine are behind us. What are you savoring right now this season? What are you looking forward to feasting on this winter? Our collective farm minds are tuned in to the future, as there’s always something to be preparing for.

FEATURED ITEM THIS WEEK… Red Currants!

These bright, juicy, antioxidant-packed gems are the perfect blend of tart + sweet, making them an ideal centerpiece for baked goods, sauces, jams, and jellies. Currants grow on short woody shrubs and are often harvested in pearl-like strands on the stem. These “superfruit” berries are also high in pectin and acid, which means that they create thick preserves without having to add in commercial gelling agents.
