CSA WEEK 8

Posted on July 20th, 2021 by Lacey Arnold

Amidst the drizzly gloom these days, we're finding it important to focus on the bright sides of what's happening around us on the farm. Recently, it's the peaches that are just starting to ripen! Our peach groves currently span three acres and contain roughly 700 trees. Some of these trees are just over a year old and will start to bear fruit in two more years. In the early spring, pruning our peach trees and other fruit trees is an essential step in setting them up for success during the summer.

Warner Farm has been undergoing a slow transition toward fruit farming over the past few years. We began with berries and have since planted apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, and grapes. Our first peach orchard was planted in 2016 and covered over 2 full acres of our farm. In 2018, we lost a portion of the new orchard due to excessive rain and flooding. We are welcoming the 2022 growing season when all of our peach trees will have reached maturity and peaches will be flowing in from the fields in abundance just like our strawberries!

FEATURED ITEM THIS WEEK… Maple Syrup!

We deeply value the relationships we have with the other local farms and producers that surround us. One grower that we work with, Fallen Oak Farm, has an abundance of maple syrup from this spring's sugaring season that we are able to sell through our CSA. This local maple syrup is both delicious and beautifully packaged in glass bottles. Each 8oz (1/2 pint) bottle is $10, and each 500ml (~1 pint) bottle is $15. Syrup will be available as an "extra" only and is a fantastic way to use up any credits that you've earned so far this season! We will offer this specialty item again in the early fall.
