CSA WEEK 4

Posted on June 23rd, 2020 by Lacey Arnold

Hot! Hot! Hot!

The temperature is certainly up there these days and we've got lot's of sun and still barely any rain. The crops are certainly thirsty now and we are spending plenty of time working hard to make sure the fields get the water they need. This unique weather situation is bad news for our berry fields, but great news for our peas and beans! Green and Yellow Beans LOVE the heat and are coming along very nicely out there. You can expect to see those in your shares in the coming weeks. Our peas are also giving us huge yields these days and our crew has been diligently picking these wonderful little summer treats from their curly vines for us to enjoy.

For Week 3 we started folks with delicious English Shelling Peas, but for Week 4 you'll be treated to your first helping of Sugar Snap Peas!!! For those who aren't familiar with the difference, Shelling Peas have big fat pods that are tough and not good to eat. You pop these pea pods open and only eat the peas inside. These are the type of peas you typically buy pre-shelled and canned or frozen in the store. Snap peas are slim tender pods that are super tasty to eat whole, pod and all, either raw or cooked. They are sweet, healthy, and a wonderful summer snack. Which is your favorite type of pea? (Mine is the Shelling Pea!)

Our U-Pick fields are still open for the 2020 season! Bring the whole family and pick strawberries till your hearts content! There's still plenty of beautiful, sweet smelling berries out there for the picking, but the seasons not going to last much longer! It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the sun, so stop by sometime before strawberry season says goodbye for another year! Check out our website for more information. Hope to see you there!
