WEEK 3

Posted on June 16th, 2020 by Lacey Arnold

Sweet Summer Sunshine!

This week on the farm we are excitedly welcoming in one of our favorite summer crops, English Peas, also known as Shelling Peas! English Peas are an absolute favorite for many folks, and it's easy to understand why. These little beauties get a bad rap from their canned counterparts, but if you've never had them fresh, don't be so quick to judge! There's really nothing like freshly shelled peas harvested fresh off the vines from your local farm.

Shelling Pea Pro Tip: Save the shells!!! Most folks will just toss the pods of their freshly shelled peas right into the trash. What a waste! Save those shells and make a stock! Shelling pea pods add a wonderful light spring flavor to stocks and make a great addition to many summer soups. If you aren't ready to make stock the day you shell your peas, no problem! You can easily freeze the pods for later!

Our U-Pick fields are now officially open for the 2020 season! Bring the whole family and pick strawberries till your hearts content! The fields are FULL of beautiful, sweet smelling berries and it's a great way to get outside and enjoy the sun. Check out our website for more information. Hope to see you there!

NOTES ABOUT THE CSA:

Emails: We have been having some major communication problems with these weekly emails, and I know they have not been reaching everyone. I believe these problems have all been solved, and if you are reading this email then my belief was correct! There should (hopefully) be no further email complications this season! If you have sent me an email in the last week and NOT received a response, please do send it again so that we can properly connect now that the email errors are solved.

Shares: Your shares are built by your preferences! Your preferences can be adjusted at any point in the season! If you notice you are getting things you don't like or not getting enough of the things you do like, consider adjusting some of your numbers. If you rated too many things low, it often results in shares with not much variety. If you rate everything too high, it can result in a lack of your favorite things reaching you. The beauty is no matter how your share turns out each week, you can always customize it further to your liking.

If anyone has any questions at all about share customization or how to use your Harvie profile this season, please don't hesitate to ask.
