Farm Happenings for August 5, 2020

Posted on August 3rd, 2020 by Ben Saunders

It's hard to believe but August is here! These cooler temperatures sure don't make it feel like August.  Some of the heat loving summer crops aren't going to fruit as quickly as they "normally" would but it looks like by next week we will be back into the heat.

This week we are finishing up harvesting all the onions and shallots.  Like Garlic, all the onions (except for the sweet onions you are receiving now) will dry in our greenhouse before they start getting distributed.  The onions are smaller than in past seasons but all in all look good!

The tomatoes in the high tunnel are starting to produce and we just picked the first cherry tomatoes from the field.  These will be going out to as many shares as we can right now but soon everyone will start receiving tomatoes.  Cherry tomatoes at first and then the full size ones.  We also will be starting to distribute eggplants this week to some shares as well.

Have a great week,

Farmer Ben and the Crew
