Farm Happenings for June 17, 2020

Posted on June 16th, 2020 by Ben Saunders

This time of year is when we begin the typically begin the transition between Spring and Summer Crops.  As you all have read in the past Farm Happenings, this has not been a typical season at all.  Things were planted later than normal in the Spring (because of rains), many crops did not produce as expected because of the late season frosts and the heat.  Needless to say this has been the most challenging growing season I've ever had!

We are really excited though to have Sugar Snap Peas in the Shares this week!  I had a lot of concerns about this crop because of the hot weather.  Typically if it gets too hot they will drop their blossoms as a survival mechanism.  They kept plugging along this season and we're happy to include them in the Share this week.

This week we are including Kale bunches in the Shares from Kate at Root to Rise (Certified Organic) located outside of Ames, Iowa.  Kate worked at Wabi Sabi Farm for 3 years and then got the opportunity to start her own Farm this season.  While our crops are catching up we are trying to source items from other farmer friends to include in your shares but many Farms are having challenges this season. We are trying to provide you with the best Shares we can (which usually would just be produce we grow) but will be purchasing produce as possible and will always inform you of where it came from if it's not from us.

Have a great week,
