Farm Happenings for July 11, 2018

Posted on July 9th, 2018 by Ben Saunders

We hope everyone had a safe and fun Independence Day last week.  We sent out an email the previous Saturday stating that we weren't doing a delivery and it sounds like some folks didn't receive it.  Could everyone respond to this email just so we know that everyone is seeing them?

We spent last week preparing and planting for Fall Crops.  It's hard to believe that we are already planting crops that won't get harvested till October in July but that is what happens!  We planted over 900 Brussels Sprout and 400 Romanesco Broccoli among other things.  Hard to believe, but Fall will be here before we know it!

We have some exciting news!  This Wednesday (July 11th) we will be speaking in front of the Granger City Council regarding the flooding issues going on at the farm caused by the surrounding "development".  Practical Farmers of Iowa, NRCS and Polk County Soil and Water Conservation will be there as well!  If any of you would like to attend shoot me an email and we can talk about it!

This week we are happy to be able to offer 3 different types of Mushrooms (Shiitake, Chestnut and Oyster) from our buddy Matt of Bee Grateful Gardens ala carte!  Matt does an amazing job of growing mushrooms right in the heart of Des Moines!
