Farm Happenings at Urban Agrarian

It’s birthday week! Come party with us.

Three years ago today we were furiously stocking our Edmond store. Ten years ago we were putting the finishing touches on our OKC store and food hub. BOTH of our stores opened to the public for the first time on October 22, seven years apart! Our mission has always been to help local farms expand their... read more »

We're over the hump - fall crops are coming in!

Posted on October 12th, 2021
There's always an awkward period between growing seasons when produce runs a little slim, and we've been in that awkward place for the past few weeks. But this week the arrival of more leafy greens plus some root veggies, like turnips and radishes, has us ready to declare the shoulder season over. We're... read more »

A little more summer: squash, green beans, watermelon

Posted on October 5th, 2021
Summer has just a little bit left to give, it seems. This will likely be the last harvest of watermelons from Livesay Orchards, and we have at least one one more harvest of yellow squash coming from Better Together Farm, along with green beans. We also have a few local sweet potatoes from Happy Hens... read more »

Pears and a pasta sale

Posted on September 28th, 2021
Our friend Chris at Della Terra pasta is celebrating 10 years in business this month. And as a matter of fact, he launched his business right here in our own kitchen before we took over the space, so we're extra excited to help him celebrate. All pasta is $1-off this week. New items this week in the... read more »

Tomatoes are back! + New cheese + Grapes

We thought they were done ... then more tomatoes emerged! We are getting tomatoes from two new-to-us farms this week, including Watermark Farms in Arcadia. We also have a new batch of a regionally made farmstead cheese from Grison Dairy and Creamery in Missouri. And speaking of regional finds, we got... read more »

Ground beef is 25% off! + Peas are back

Posted on September 14th, 2021
Hamburger meat is always a problem fro nose-to-tail butchers. There's just a lot more to a cow than ribeye and roasts. We buy whole cows from BF Farms about every-other week, and our butcher, Julia, cuts and packages them in house. This is some of the best, freshest beef you could buy. But we always... read more »

It's time to think about produce preservation.

Posted on September 7th, 2021
It's true - summer crops are winding down. That means it's time to save them! This week we have some great picklers: cucumbers, beets, okra, peppers and red onions. And some great fruits for canning or freezing: peaches and apples. Double up on your favorites and get a project going in your kitchen!... read more »

Green beans are back + late summer slump

Posted on August 31st, 2021
This heat has been a little stressful on everything from the chickens to the tomatoes to our refrigeration units. Over the past few weeks, we've seen lower harvests at the dairies we work with, the egg producers, and the vegetable growers. That's pretty normal, though - this is the beginning of Oklahoma's... read more »

Apples are here!

Posted on August 24th, 2021
Livesay Orchards is harvesting Gala and Jonathon apples this week! Most people think of apples as a fall fruit, but they're actually a staple of late summer, along with melons and peppers. Galas are slightly sweet, and Jonathons are a little tart (they're a customer favorite.) All of the apples from... read more »
