Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter Season, Week 46&47, Delivery April 20 thru 21

---- Quail Eggs Are Back ----

The quail have started laying eggs again. Prices are the same, at $3 a dozen. If you do not have an egg scissors (from last year), you can also pick one of those for your box. Just cut the end off, dump into frying pan for the cutest little fried eggs. Yolks are extra smooth. If you want to hard boil them, store in fridge until the "sell by" date. Older eggs peel easier, just like the month old eggs you get from the store.

---- Hydroponics ----

We made it through the winter with our test hydroponic set up! Learned a lot about using peat pellets for growing media, plus finding the right fertilizer and pH levels. Monitoring the filter and water pump. And dealing with aphids in the dead of winter. While we did not have enough produce for everyone, we were able to grow enough to feel comfortable ramping our capacity for next winter.

Thanks,
Phil.
