Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter Season, Week 34&35, Delivery January 25 thru January 27

---- Indoor Activities ----

Surprise, surprise it's still cold outside. So, these last two weeks we really focused on indoor work. We did some winter organization inside our processing build: storing boxes, moving old veggies out, and general cleaning.

Down at the shop, which thankfully is heated now, we worked on vehicle repair and maintenance. Making sure everything is ready for summer. Also did some R&D work on one of tractors which will soon become a full-time cultivating tractor. Being able to cultivate better means less weed pressure, which in turn means less labor and more veggies.

In the seed shack we planted our first seedlings of the summer. Leeks start out really early because they need so much time to mature. We like to start them in late January so that when we do plant them in mid-April they already have a step ahead of any weeds. Last year was not a good leek year because of how dry it was. Leeks really would rather have it be moister, so here's hoping for a better leek year.

Thanks,
Ian.
