Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer, Week 15, September 7 thru September 9

---- Peppers ----

Last Saturday, 9/4, I went out and harvested the beginning of our Bell and Jalapeno peppers. The plants seem to be happy but like most things this year were hurt by the drought. We will start with low numbers for now but hopefully in the next few weeks they will begin to take off, fingers crossed. Carmen, cayenne, and habanero are still about 3 weeks out. Those 3 varieties need time to turn color and mature before we can harvest them.

---- Red Potatoes ----

The yukons are gone but the reds have moved in. We harvested all of our red potatoes just last Thursday, 9/2. It was a some what nice crop considering the weather and we should have them for the next few weeks. After reds we will move on to Russets as they need the longest time in the field to get up to "Baker" size.

---- Yellow Sweet Onions ----

This will be the last week of yellow sweet onions. Sweet onions tend to not keep as well as storage onions and because of this it's time to move them out before it's to late. After this week all the onions you'll see will be storage onions meaning they can be kept for months if kept cool and out of sunlight. I personally keep my onions in my lowest cupboard right next to my pots and pans.

Thanks,
Ian.
