Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter, Week 51&52, May 16

---- Asparagus No Need to Trim ----

Asparagus is here. Its coming slowly, due to the dry weather, but very tasty. Enough for about half the members. When we harvest, we snap the stems, rather than cut with a knife. That insures the spears are tender to the bottom. No need to trim anything off. If you get some this week - hooray! If you don't, be patient, its still coming.

---- Dry Dry Dry ----

What a dry spring! We have not had rain for 4 weeks. I do not remember such a dry spring. One little system two weeks ago went south, and last week, it stayed out west. Hopefully the predicted rain for later this week materializes. It does not look like much, but hopefully enough to get the asparagus and rhubarb going.

---- Plant and Water ----

With dry weather, we can plant every day. So we are ahead of schedule with planting. However, we also need to water anything we plant. So our sprinkler is going 7/24 and we have to water in every transplant multiple times to keep them happy. With rain and warm temps, everything is primed to grow - now we just have to be patient!
