Farm Happenings for May 28, 2022

Posted on May 26th, 2022 by Alexander Admin

Howdy All!

We have a few announcements this week for our CSA.

-First, we are coming to the end of our CSA "Year" for tracking purposes. What this means is that in the first week of June automatic CSA Membership renewal emails will go out to each of you. You will also get billed for the first CSA share of the season whether you are on hold or not. If you are on hold and want to continue to be on hold, you will need to place those dates on hold for the new season. Additionally, that first billing will be applied to your first received share.

-Secondly, after much deliberation we have decided to increase the price of our weekly shares to $32/week. Our decision did not come lightly as we strive to make our local veggies available to as many people as possible in our community. Unfortunately, prices for everything from seeds to compost deliveries have double and tripled in many cases. We thank you for your understanding in this situation.

-Lastly, I want to introduce and welcome our new Assistant Farm Manager, Alexander. Alexander is a Texas A&M graduate and brings with him years of experience of working on organic farms in New Jersey. Alexander will be joining me at the market this Saturday so be sure to say hello and welcome him to our veggie family.

Now to the farm stuff! It is TOMATO season. We are having a great harvest of our tomatoes this year. Many of you have already been receiving tomatoes in your Share but I will also have plenty of extra tomorrow at the Brazos Valley Farmers Market for 8am-12pm. I will have a few 5lbs bags of canning tomatoes (Paste tomatoes) for $15, a 25% discount. Be sure to come early to claim yours because tomatoes go fast at the market!

As we begin to turn the page to June we have a great lineup of veggies coming in. Our winter squash patch of spaghetti squash, butternut squash, Northern Georgia roasters, and kabocha squash are getting closer to harvesting and I'm hoping to get the first selections into some late June shares. Also our Eagle Pass Okra has began to bloom and produce a small amount of okra. This is a good sign that we will soon be neck deep in this summer favorite. Our patch of Sugar Baby watermelon is also on track for a late June harvest just in time for Independence Day.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our farm!

Best,

Farmer Kenny
