Final Week of Farm Share

Posted on October 24th, 2022 by Jenny Berkenbosch

***Last Week of Farm Share***

Hello Farm Share Friends, this is our last week delivering boxes to all of you. We want to thank you for helping to make this a wonderful summer!  It's been a year of tremendous growth and learning for us on the farm, and it feels like the future of the farm has shifted in a really positive direction. We are looking forward to next year for when we will be growing in twice as many permanent beds as this year. We have exciting plans to increase the farm's biodiversity by planting more trees and shrubs on our property as well as to move ahead with the next phase of no-till, permanent beds.  Your support and commitment means that our move towards regenerative farming is possible - so a huge THANK YOU!!!

In this last farm share there is less variety overall, but many of the available items will store very nicely and satisfy that craving for soups, stews and roasts. Keep most of your roots in a cold fridge in their plastic storage bags, potatoes in a cool, dark place, onions somewhere dry and dark, and squash on your kitchen table or on top of your fridge! We are offering larger bags of unwashed potatoes for those of you wanting to stock up a bit; potatoes store best unwashed. Also, take advantage of the last of the beautiful Hakurei turnips of the season! We wanted to mention that the tops of the turnips are as delicious as the bottoms; we like them simply sautéed with some onion and garlic.

I mentioned it last week, and I'll remind you again that your account will auto-renew in the early spring (after we give you several notifications of course!) unless you have your auto-renew settings toggled off. (This is found on your Harvie page under account, then profile, subscription, and finally auto-renew settings) We hope that you will join us again in 2023 for a summer & fall of fresh, local, organic eating!

If you find yourself in need of a Sundog veggie fix, remember that we are at the Old Strathcona Farmer's Market every Saturday, year round from 8-3. And, as always, you can take  advantage of the free parking next to the market.

***You're Invited to Jenny's Art Sale***

Mark your calendars for Nov. 26 & 27 to come to Jenny's Open Studio and Christmas Sale! The hours are 12-5 each day, and many paintings will be priced at a discount. It's time to clear out the studio and make room for some new creative work!!

A few fall photos from the farm and nearby river valley (and I would add more, but I'm having technical difficulties - argh!). We are looking forward to spending more time with our family and friends, and look forward to recuperating our spent energy over the winter months. We wish you all a wonderful winter season.

Warmly,

James, Jenny and the Sundog crew
