It's Thanksgiving!

Posted on October 3rd, 2022 by Jenny Berkenbosch

It's always time for gratitude, but this weekend coming up, we bring into sharper focus the many reasons we are grateful.  Here at Sundog we are grateful to be farmers, to live and work closely with nature, and to grow yummy food. We are grateful for you folks and for the way that our lives are connected to yours through the vegetables you take home and cook with each week.  We are grateful for fair weather to work in at the moment, and for the stunning beauty of fall.  We are especially grateful for our families and the folks that work on our farm - all of whom are part of our success.

***Farm News***

We are one bed shy from completing carrot harvest (it's been a good one!), and today we began parsnip harvest.  Parsnips require a little more HP, so we hooked up two tractors to the digger to give it a bit more go, and it turns out this wasn't the best idea - the digger snapped.  So James is in the shop exercising his welding skills, and the rest of us found other jobs to do (like weeding the turnips and spinach as in the above photo).

Next Monday you won't receive a customization email from us because we will be taking Monday as a holiday. Instead, you will receive your customization notice on Tuesday evening and your window for making changes will be shorter than normal.  We trust that you understand that we and our team will benefit from a day off following what is often our busiest time of year.

In Gratitude,

James and Jenny

What To Do if You Are Away

This is a question we get asked often. You have three options:

1) Have someone else pick up for you. In our experience, friends assigned this job sometimes forget, so help them remember!

2) Cancel your share for the week. This can be managed on your Harvie account page. It must be done before the Wednesday morning cutoff time of 6 a.m. The disadvantage here is that you lose whatever you have invested into that share. So if you've paid 50%, then you forfeit that amount.

3) Reschedule your share. This is our recommended option because it means you get your full value. What we suggest is that you reschedule your share to a week near the end when you will get more storage-friendly items that will last longer in your fridge, though you're welcome to reschedule to any date that works best for you. When you reschedule, you will get the scheduled share as well as the rescheduled share or shares, so be prepared for a lot of food.
