Farm Happenings for July 25, 2020

Posted on July 21st, 2020 by Jenny Berkenbosch

Hi Folks!  Thanks so much for your warm responses to last week's delivery.  We are amazed how grateful people are even though this years' produce isn't the best.

Among other items, this week we are sending you the last of our first crop of lettuce which we are hoping you can make use of.  (Who out there doesn't like lettuce?)  If we are offering you too much lettuce you should be able to substitute something else like purple carrot or Spanish onion.  We plant 4 or 5 crops of lettuce per year so that there is lettuce all season, but this year we planted the first two, then skipped two crops because of the weather.  There is one crop that we should be able to start harvesting in two weeks and then another that is a long way off still.  An interesting thing about lettuces is it doesn't really stay the same over it's 3 to 4 week harvest window; maybe you will notice the difference.  Regarding rhubarb: the heat of late July always brings it to a halt. So if you want to stock up, this week is a good time to put some in the freezer.  New this week is the the first harvests of onions!
