Getting Closer to Spring

Posted on February 22nd, 2022 by Ron Meyer

We’re moving into that messy, melting-snow, muddy time of year from late February to early March that Chris calls “Farch.” The all-day rain today (Tuesday) isn’t helping! But the melting mess means warmer weather will soon be the rule, and shoots now poking up at the farm will blossom into the earliest spring flowers. We’re poring over seed catalogs and placing orders. Soon we’ll start tomatoes, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes and some flowers indoors.

This week’s farm stand includes a new item for us, ground round. This is a leaner choice than regular ground beef. It’s ideal for recipes calling for browned, crumbled ground beef, such as chili, tacos and spaghetti sauce. Mary also found this healthier version of salisbury steak, “Ground Round with Onion Gravy” at Me and My Captain, https://www.meandmycaptain.com/2014/05/ground-round-onion-gravy/.

Other items on the farm stand list include eggs, local honey, red raspberry jam, and other cuts of our beef, including steaks and roasts. We also have regular ground beef. Our next delivery will be in two weeks, March 10. Hang in there, spring is coming!
