Merry Christmas from the Farm!

Posted on December 21st, 2021 by Ron Meyer

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We’re looking forward to having our whole family here at the farm next week for a late Christmas celebration. We’re sure you have happy holiday plans too.

This week our farm stand offers items that will help make your gatherings special: farm potatoes and eggs, local honey, raspberry and strawberry jam (strawberry is limited!), Mary’s festive and buttery shortbread, and cuts of our grass-fed beef. We even have a limited amount of romaine lettuce that managed to survive under row cover.

In the spotlight this week is our tenderized round steak, one of our favorite beef cuts. Mary likes to sear it in butter in a deep cast-iron pan, then add a bit of water, cover, and cook slowly for 30-45 minutes. After that, she adds cut-up potatoes, carrots, and onions, plus minced fresh garlic, and covers the pan again. When the vegetables are tender, the meal is done! Just add crusty bread and butter, and maybe some homemade applesauce. Mmmm!
