Summer Heat

Posted on August 24th, 2021 by Ron Meyer

Whew, it's hot out there! Kids are back in school and it seems like fall should be coming, but we have the heat of midsummer at the farm. That means lettuces aren’t doing well, but tomatoes, raspberries, peppers and green beans are ripening fast.

This week we have those four items, plus red beets, garlic, kale, summer squash, flower bouquets, some arugula and romaine, green onions, basil and other fresh herbs. We also have farm fresh eggs, grassfed beef, local honey and strawberry and raspberry jams. The zucchini is finally winding down, but we still have some on the farm stand list.

New this week is a small amount of sweet corn, with the fascinating name of “Who Gets Kissed?” Since this variety has mostly bicolor ears but some are all yellow or all white, we decided that the yellow corn must have been kissed and is blushing!
