It's all seasonal! The slow down is starting Week #4

Posted on September 1st, 2020 by Cale Sprister

September is here and what I call the "slow down" has started.

I noticed it the beginning of last week with the slicer tomatoes. They just haven't been growing well and the amount of fruit set has really fallen off.  I also notice it now in the summer squash and some of the lettuce beds that were planted earlier.

The slow down is not based on temperatures, but light.  As we head into the fall months light levels begin to fall faster and faster.  Veggies react to the longer nights and slow down. All growth stops when we reach 10 hrs of day light or less which in our zone happens mid to late November.

So expect to start seeing a transition to greens and the faster root crops!  It is the natural course of seasonal growing; from the summer annual crops to the winter annual crops.

Speaking of winter did you see the forecast from Tuesday Sept 8th?  The forecast for the farm is a high of 40 low of 28 with 2" of snow!

I am not God and not in control!

I will keep doing everything I can to get you all veggies I can, but like I said last week hold on for a wild ride this fall!

Thanks for the support and patience!

Your Farmer,
