Farm Happenings for October 27, 2020

Posted on October 23rd, 2020 by Anna Bunk

Hello Farmshare members,

The days are getting shorter and colder and we can no longer start our harvests at 7:30 in the morning as we had been. Just the other morning, a light frost blanketed the farm as the crew started packing Farmshare boxes before sunrise, bundled up in wool sweaters and coats.

This time of year allows us as farmers to look back and reflect on what happened during that whirlwind of summer. It gives us a reminder that winter is upon us; a natural transition time for adjustments to be made, on the farm, and in our personal journeys.

This last week we had the first of a series of meetings with all the farmers here who will be returning next season, to debrief the season and start thinking about changes we hope to make as a team, a farm. These meetings are important to pull us all out of the daily grind and think big picture as a large unified group. It’s a long process to come together with eleven people and have everyone say their piece but we are lucky to have an amazing crew of people to farm with and I think we are are looking forward to more planning meetings ahead.

Have a spooky Halloween and enjoy those veggies!
