Farm Happenings for June 25, 2019 (week 3)

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Neil Stauffer

Perhaps it will become cliche to hear, but it was another busy week on the farm. Weather and special events and the uptick of products to harvest and the energy of hardworking people everywhere you turn. It all makes this farming life a fun and wild ride.

This week Rivendale hosted the Sustainable Agriculture & Food System Funders forum (see picture). It consisted of a national collection of individuals and organizations focused on helping to develop future funding projects for small and mid-sized farms. The event was co-hosted by the Robotics Institute from CMU. It was enlightening to hear the questions and discussion among farmers, academics, and funders.

But then we got back to work. And there's plenty of it, of course. June is a big month on the farm. A month where the to do list never ends, but each week we make progress and try to celebrate the small victories along the way. We had almost 2 inches of rain last night, but thankfully our raised beds kept the majority of the sitting water contained in the recessed walkways. So this morning we did greenhouse work indoors. Then by this afternoon, we were able to get back into the fields and continue working on trellising tomatoes and planting more lettuce.

The list of veggies available in the CSA is longer than ever this week. Lots of things for you to choose from. Please don't miss your opportunity to swap and add items to your box. We love knowing that you're getting the products you want each week!
